They're the independent opticians celebrating 50 years of service to the people of Hythe - and their eyes.

Dawkins and Lodge Opticians on The Marsh have been at the heart of the community since 1974, five decades of clinical expertise, patient care and long term personal service to thousands of residents.

Originally opened by Mr Michael Dawkins and Mr Michael Lodge, the practice moved to its current home in 2009.

The opticians is marking its 50th year in business by expanding its long-standing team, all of whom have been with the practice for at least ten years.

A new resident optometrist, Marvin Zuva, hopes to expand the team's capacity and bring further expertise to patients.

Dawkins and Lodge Practice Manager Lynda Wells, an employee of 15 years standing, said: “It’s a huge honour to be part of such a longstanding practice and it means a great deal to the entire team. We’re really looking forward to celebrating this milestone with our patients and we can’t wait to see all the amazing developments at the practice unfold!

"We’re continuously striving to improve upon the service that we’re able to offer to our patients, so bringing Marvin on board was incredibly exciting for the whole team!

“Marvin is very professional and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the practice. He always brings a smile to both the team and his patients – we already feel like he’s one of the family!”

Marvin plans to introduce some new services to the practice, being accredited for both Post Cat, which allows patients to receive post operative treatment following cataract surgery, and CUES (Community Urgent Eyecare Service).

Marvin added: “I’m really looking forward to my future at Dawkins and Lodge and also the future of the practice itself. It’s an honour to be able to serve the patients in Hythe and I’m excited to see where we can enhance the patient experience further to meet the local community’s eyecare needs.”
