McDonald's restaurants have reportedly been hit by IT issues worldwide.

Restaurants in the UK and Australia are among those affected, according to national press reports.

Mail Online reports an Australian branch manager said: "We're in the dark."

A McDonald's spokesperson reportedly said: "McDonald’s restaurants are experiencing an IT issue that’s impacting their ability to process orders. Our team is working to rectify the issues as soon as possible, and we thank customers for their patience.”

One Daily Echo Facebook page user, Anne Hegarty from Lordshill, said: "Went in one on Weds. Their machines in that branch don't suit me.

"Was not allowed to order, at the counter and pay cash. When I returned to the van we looked, at each other, and said 'what happens when it stops working'."

Another added: "They must have put the computer chips in the frier!"
