Pictures show a lucky escape for the driver of an all-wheel drive Subaru rally car that has been left wrecked after crashing in a Netley road.

An officer from Hampshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to warn other petrol-heads that tearing vehicles around bends often has nasty results.

The officer wrote on X: “The driver of this Scooby claimed to have 'lost the back end' of this rally bred, all-wheel drive, modern classic at 45 miles per hour.”

Daily Echo: Taking the opportunity to question the driver’s claim of travelling at just 45 miles per hour, the officer added: “Managed to get our bike and unmarked BMW round the same bend ok, so we think it might be an underestimate.

“Still, no injuries. Sad end for the Scooby.”

The mangled car was towed away and the debris from the crash vehicle was cleared away from the road.

Confirming the incident took place, a spokesperson from the force said: “Police were called at 2.41pm on Sunday, March 17, to reports of a collision on Abbey Road, Netley Abbey.

“No-one was injured.”
