An Eastleigh school has received its latest Ofsted report with the school being rated “Good” after having a visit from inspectors last month.
The Bridge Education Centre, a pupil referral unit in Eastleigh, had a visit from Ofsted inspectors on February 20, 2024.
A pupil referral unit is a school that caters for children who need more support than a mainstream school can provide.
In the report, inspectors credited the staff for their ability to form trusting relationships with students by listening to them and understanding individual needs.
The inspector wrote in the report: “Everyone shares the same relentless dedication to supporting pupils to get the most out of their time here.
“Pupils get personalised support through well-being lessons, mentoring or counselling. This helps them to develop strategies to take responsibility for their own behaviour.”
The inspector wrote that school’s work to support pupils’ personal development is “remarkable” and that pupils are eager to attend the school.

It is also highlighted that the school makes great efforts to understand individual needs but said that “there is some further sharpening of initial assessments needed, particularly around reading”.
The report continued: “This work is now beginning to ensure that any gaps in literacy knowledge, skills and confidence are precisely identified and addressed.”
Ofsted inspectors continued to rate the school “Good”, following its last inspection in 2018.
Headteacher of the Bridge Education Centre, Chris Bayliss, said: “I’m delighted that the Ofsted report validates the work our team provide children every day to ensure that they feel safe and valued in school.
“We know that school can be challenging for some children and we have worked really hard over the years to provide a full range of subjects alongside therapeutic support to help our students not just achieve academic results but provide support for them to face the future.
“Our last Ofsted inspection in 2018 found that we were a ‘Good’ school and to not only maintain but improve on the inspection findings is testament to our team.”
