A section of the M3 motorway has been shut after a road sweeper vehicle overturned trapping two workers inside.

At around 6.45am on Monday, March 25, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a two-vehicle crash between Junction 10 (Chilcomb Interchange) and 11 (Hockley Cross Interchange) near Winchester on the M3.  

The fire service said that two people were trapped in a vehicle.

National Highways has warned drivers on the M3 to expect delays and check their route before travelling.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Winchester, Eastleigh, Redbridge and Basingstoke firefighters were called at 6:45am this morning to a two-vehicle collision on the hard shoulder of the M3 northbound carriageway, between junction 10 and 11.

“The crews stabilised the vehicles and made the scene safe as they assisted two casualties who were trapped.

“Both casualties were passed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics before HIWFRS left the scene following the stop message at 07:30am.”
