Members of a football club staged a charity fun run at their playing field and raised £2,010 for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Children’s Charity.
Around 182 runners turned out for the 5K run on Good Friday, including many Whiteley Wanderers Football Club players and their families.
Great Ormond does crucial work in the fight against child cancer, which is the biggest killer of UK children aged one to fourteen.
Club chairman Steven Davies said he has been fundraising for Great Ormond Street since 2017, after the hospital treated a WWFC players’ twin brothers. Later, they worked with the sister of another of his players, Rory.
Steven said: “The event was great. We set our target at £2,000.
"I didn’t think we’d get half of that, but we managed to raise everything. Such a great effort from everyone.”
Steven aims to raise a total of £100,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, through events such as these, as well as personal endeavours such as marathons across the globe.
In two weeks, he will be running the London Marathon for the tenth time. So far, Steven has raised a staggering £70,000.
The club will be holding another charity fundraiser at its presentation tournament in June.
