A man has been attacked during a burglary which saw jewellery and money stolen from a Southampton home. 

An investigation has been launched into an "aggravated burglary" which took place at a home in Athelstan Road, Southampton yesterday (Wednesday, April 17).

Police say a house was broken into at around 9.40pm with various items stolen including jewellery and money. 

A man in his 40s has been left with bruising to his head after being assaulted during the incident.

Now officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and are keen to hear from anyone who saw two men in the area at the time. 

The first man is described as white, around 6ft, of stocky build and wearing black jogging bottoms, black trainers, a black jacket and a balaclava. 

The second man is described as white, around 6ft, of slim build, wearing black North Face trousers, dark grey trainers and a black jacket. 

He was wearing gloves and a balaclava.  

A spokesperson said: "An investigation has been launched and officers have been in the area carrying out enquiries.

"As part of our ongoing investigation we would now like to hear from anyone that we have not yet spoken to who may have information about the incident.

"Perhaps you live in the area and have CCTV or Ring Doorbell footage that may have captured something?

"Or maybe you were driving through the area and have dash cam footage that may assist our investigation?

"We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw two men in the area at the time of the offence, who we would like to speak to in connection with our enquiries."
