Hearing Dogs charity desperate for helpers

A charity is hosting an open day in a bid to recruit more volunteers to help Hampshire's deaf.

The south Hampshire branch of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is organising a free awareness day, hoping to attract more puppy socialisers.

The charity is desperate for more recruits to help train more dogs to alert profoundly deaf owners to everyday household sounds.

The highlight of the day will be a live hearing dog demonstration and the chance for potential volunteers to speak to those already involved with training dogs.

Sue Pellow, from the charity, said: "We are hoping that people will drop by to meet some puppy socialisers and learn about the valuable contribution they make to the development of young hearing dog recruits."

The event will take place at the Underhill Centre, at St John's Church in Hedge End, on September 22, from 10.30am.

For more information call Jeanette Collett on 01489 783118.

Why is there only a telephone number and not e-mail access?
Why is it not at a venue accessible by public transport?

I agree with Sue, an e mail address would be more helpful I mean, what use is a telephone number to a deaf person?

Deaf people can have and use telephones.

The volunteers required are probably not going to be deaf.

Have we really come to the stage Sue and Bright Spark that you cant pick up a phone a call someone. Is your world so "cyber" you can only email... Its obviously a bad morning for news if all you have to moan about is an email address!

They made a fair point I thought, always nice to have an alternative contact, and e mails just may be easier than a phone for those hard of hearing.
