A man has died in an incident at the Tenpin bowing alley in Southampton.

Police have revealed that officers were called to the complex in Auckland Road just after 1pm yesterday following a "concern for welfare" alert.

A police spokesperson: "We attended, along with our colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service. Sadly, a 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious. The man’s next of kin has been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner."

As reported, Tenpin was evacuated yesterday, with staff seen waiting outside the entrance in the car park after the incident.

A police officer stood guard outside the front doors to the bowling alley and fire engines, ambulances and the air ambulance attended.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was a medical incident relating to an individual and there was no cause for the public's concern.

Meanwhile, families who had arrived for an afternoon of bowling were turned away and informed they could not enter.

Tenpin has been contacted for comment.
