A TEN-year-old boy has been robbed at knifepoint as he cycled home from buying sweets.

A hooded youth, believed to be in his early teens, threatened Craig Moylan with a penknife at the end of a subway. Craig was only five minutes from his house.

The youngster was forced to hand over his bike which was a birthday present from his dad.

Police have described the crime as “deeply worrying.”

Craig told the Daily Echo that the incident left him feeling shaken up.

He said: “I was scared and I really thought he was going to stab me. I feel sad and angry and want my bike back. Now I can’t go out on bike rides with my friends or my dad and I feel worried about going out on my own.”

He added that he was too terrified to go back to the Sainsbury’s store, just five minutes from his house, unless his dad is with him.

Craig, of Lennox Close, Lordshill, Southampton, tearfully recounted the moment the teenager said: “If you don’t get off your bike I’m going to stab you up.”

After Craig dismounted the thief repeated: “Now let go of your bike now or I’m going to stab you.”

After he handed over his blue customised BMX the trio cycled off and Craig ran up to the nearest person, a girl of around 16 and told her what happened.

She asked where the thieves were and said she would get the bike back but they had already gone.

She then offered to walk him home but he ran back on his own.

His father, also called Craig, said he thought the youth problems in Lordshill were the worse they had been in the 16 years he has lived in the area.

Craig, don't let them put you off going out. If you do then they have won.

these sorry excuses for human beings are complete scumbags.... the UK need to get a grip, the legal system is a joke, if they get caught, some week willed judge will give them a slap on the wrist, the professional do gooder will whinge that these poor boys are misunderstood... and have nothing to do etc...

bring in boot camps, let the army have these "heros", no need to give them training, just send them to the various war zones with a pocket knife....

Totally agree with you, on all your points raised. The police do the hard work catching them, only for them to be let off by some judge who would rather "HUG" them. Boot style camps are the only way forward. They must learn discipline and respect for others and themselves. Hope the young lad is ok and not too shaken up.

How low these criminals can sink

Hope cops find the culprit and the judge delivers not only judgement but also justice.

We live in Southampton - not Utopia.

I am pretty sure that the good people (quite a few of them actually) will soon find out who is responsible.

Then will deal out some of their own summary justice. Guaranteed.

Laughing at the poor kid because he's a bit tubby, then saying how you feel for him because he had his bike nicked, what's that all about, also the rather over the top malice towards the kids who nicked his bike, o.k they are a nasty little group of bullies but get a grip will you, they were only little kids themselves, and I'd take the penknife bit with a pinch of salt to be honest.

It looks a little like captain Jean Luc Pacard, but I think you'll find his dad is Charles Xavier.

Equally as concerning though, and I withdraw my earlier remarks...

I am Sergeant Mark Brearley and my Safer Neighbourhood Team and I are responsible for Policing the Lordshill area. I would like to take this opportunity to explain what we are trying to achieve and have achieved to make Lordshill a safer place for residents and visitors.
Over the past year my team have successfully dealt with troublesome youths congregating and intimidating people in the Lordshill area. A number of these offenders are currently in prison or subject to the anti-social behaviour legislation. We are currently dealing with troublesome youths in the Chelveston Crescent area, which again appears to be a success.
I am working with the off-licence managers and council in reducing the amount of alcohol that falls into the hands of juveniles which will reduce crime and disorder.
We welcome contact from the community and need to know what your priorities are so that we can act on them. My team hold regular beat surgeries and street surveys and we recently conducted a successful "street briefing" in Croydon Close. Details can be found on the Coxford page of the Hampshire Constabulary web site.
This particular incident involving Craig is unacceptable and enquires are on going. If anyone has any information please contact PC Paul Martin at Shirley Police Station.
Knife crime is extremely rare in Lordshill and my team will continue to carry out operations in the area to keep it this way.

Many thanks

Mark Brearley
