FAREHAM residents are being encouraged to make regular exercise a part of their lives.
The borough council has launched a referral scheme of supervised sessions at Fareham Leisure Centre, designed to benefit people's hearts, weight, muscles and minds.
Having been referred to the course by their GP, those enrolling will visit the centre four times a week for ten weeks, with evening and weekend options available.
An initial hour-long assessment costs £6, with subsequent 30-minute assessments costing £3 each.
But those on the scheme receive a 40 per cent discount on normal prices to use the centre's gym, swimming pool, classes and courts.
Executive Member for Community, Cllr Connie Hockley believes the initiative will help residents reduce the risk of developing health problems, or manage existing conditions.
"The referral scheme offers a fantastic chance for residents to part take in regular exercise activities," she said.
"There are many health benefits from building exercise into your daily routine and so I urge residents to speak with their GP if they are interested in enrolling on the Exercise Referral Scheme."
