“IF your mum was poorly you would want her to be seen by Arlene.”

That’s the view of hospital receptionist Jackie Cutler who has nominated emergency department nurse practitioner Arlene Brady as a hospital hero.

Arlene is the first nominee in the Daily Echo’s Hospital Heroes Awards to recognise staff who really make a difference to patients.

Jackie, who has worked alongside Arlene for the past 32 years, said the senior sister always went the extra mile.

“She looks after everybody so well and really makes a difference. She always does the very best for patients and makes sure they are followed up once they go home.

“She does everything with a smile. She never seems to get stressed and nothing is too much trouble.”

“She is a pleasure to work with and always looks so glamorous too,” added Jackie.

Delighted Arlene, 64, who has worked in the NHS for 43 years, said: “I am very appreciative, humbled and grateful.

“I treat everyone exactly as I would like to be treated.

Daily Echo readers can nominate anyone employed by Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust which runs Southampton General Hospital, the Princess Anne Hospital and Countess Mountbatten House, as well as some services at the Royal South Hants Hospital.

The overall winner will be decided by a panel of Echo judges. The closing date is February 20.
