A KNIFE wielding teenager jumped through the window at a Southampton flat and demanded the physically handicapped occupant for money.

The victim, who only has one leg and uses a wheelchair, told police she was absolutely terrified and feared he was going to kill her.

The drama happened just before 6am when Sheenah Parker and a friend had fallen asleep in the lounge.

Prosecutor Keeley Harvey said Ms Parker suddenly became aware of a noise at the window and saw a stranger, Jamal Jones, mumbling something incoherent. After her friend went to get the police, Jones jumped through the window and demanded money, pulling cushions off the sofa, searching handbags and repeatedly saying, 'Where's your money? I know you have some.'

Ms Parker told police that Jones threatened her with a small kitchen knife, telling her, 'I know you have money. Don't think I won't stick this in you.'

Jones, however, admitted having the knife to frighten her but denied any intention of using it and making the threat.

Said to have 11 previous convictions for 19 offences, the 19-year-old from Golden Grove, Southampton, admitted attempted robbery and was jailed for 50 months.

Judge John Boggis QC told him: "You have a bad record, you need stability and discipline and you will get that inside."

In mitigation, Fern Russell said Jones - who had once been expelled from school for assaulting a teacher - had moved from London to Southampton to make a fresh start but his bad links followed him.
