Teen scooter riders risk lives in M27 madness

The scooters on the M27 The scooters on the M27

THIS is the shocking moment when two reckless teenagers put their lives at risk by riding their scooters along a busy Hampshire motorway.

With a blatant disregard for the law, the two youngsters took to the westbound carriageway of the M27 on their bikes – with L plates.

One motorist couldn’t believe his eyes when he spotted the two scooters joining the motorway.

The shocked driver, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “We came to join the motorway at junction two coming from Ower and as we came to the roundabout two scooters filtered in front of us coming from the direction of Totton.

“It was absolutely crazy. They were travelling at about 35mph and causing a lot of the cars behind them to brake.

“I followed them for about half a mile and I was so shocked to see them riding along a motorway I got my passenger to take pictures and video.

“I just felt that I couldn’t let them get away with it – it’s a lot more serious than a couple of kids just mucking about on bikes.

“Not only is it illegal but it is highly irresponsible.

“I dread to think what might have happened if either one had been hit by a car – they wouldn’t have stood a chance.”

Police say the duo will be investigated for a number of different road offences and could end up with a fine, driving licence penalty points or possible driver disqualification.

Inspector Darren Miller of Totton Roads Police Unit added: “We will definitely investigate this.

“The danger to them and to other road users is quite apparent.

I’m not sure what they were trying to do. It was a very unusual incident and I’m not sure I can recall anything like it in the past.”

A spokeswoman from the road safety charity Brake, said the incident was evidence that more needed to be done to toughen up the driver learning process.

She said: “Learner drivers are not allowed to drive on motorways and to do so can be incredibly dangerous for themselves and other road users.

“If you are learning to drive you must make sure you know the rules before you get on the road.

“Brake urges the Government to review and toughen up the learning process and driving test. This includes learner drivers receiving a minimum level of professional tuition which includes teaching them to drive safely on all types of road, including motorways.”

If they are typical scooter idiots you normally get, they will eventually get what they deserve. Little chavs i would have thought.

There used to be warning signs as to what vehicles were banned from the M way. As these are L plate children they have hardly bothered to read the Highway Code, if they can read at all.

On the news there is this single parent awareness - working mums - like all parents we do not have eyes in the back of our heads - although in a really good family, that is what we did (the hidden eye). It emphasises the really young being taught how to survive in the real world 'Civilisation'. These youngsters are spoilt, parent/s are not there because they are working to keep you kids in food. What a sad load of meat you kids are - without your parents - you are nothing.

Ban them, crush their noisy little bikes and then stick them in the army for five years!

Second thoughts why should the army suffer, make that prison :-)

Law is the law and I understand the need to keep l drivers and mopeds/scooters off the motorways.

Putting that aside, the irony is that they are probably safer there, than on normal, mainstream roads with junctions, roundabouts and dual flowing traffic.

there used to be signs when approaching motorways saying that vehicles under (I think) 150cc's were banned. We live in a society where people are scared to impliment laws for fear of offence.

Better to see them on the motorway than driving around in packs, sitting on my rear bumper on the local A and B rosds.
I wonder how many have come off today???? :)

There are more laws being passed now than at any other time. The enforcement is the problem.

I'm certain that I have seen scooter riders on the motorway before. You can drive past and give them 'the look' but they just ignore you. Under motorway conditions its very obvious they don't belong there - they are too small and too slow compared to the other traffic. As well as noisy and annoying. As I tell my children "no, they're not real motorbikes, they are just little toys for young lads to play with."

These two would have been fully aware of the law regarding motorway restrictions if they had sat a CBT test.
They are like most chav scooter riders who could'nt give a sh*t about other road users.

On the other hand there are some drivers that think it safe to join a motorway at 35mph!

there's a big difference between 'doing something stupid' and doing something that is both illegal and mental. Get a life? stop being an apologist more like.

only because they never stop at junctions or roundabouts these chavs have the mentality of little kids and therefore treat these bikes as toys to play with

The authorities have a very clear duty that, when they come to finally take their road driving tests, they will be automatically failed on at least three occasions however well they do when taking that test. By the look of these individuals they probably will never bother to take a test and will be 'L' drivers for the rest of time. Do they care, Nah!

I concur. Would love to give them a nudge so they come off. Then I would pull over and give them a good kicking. My kind of medicine.

Sounds like KA is probably one of the pikey scum's reprobate parent. Keep on making excuses.

could they just of made a genuine mistake? It is possible they just came down the dual carraigeway from totton and followed the road round and down the slip road.

remember they are learners without the benefit of a fully qualified person sat next to them. it would of been no fun for them on a motorway at 35mph?

Unless they are illiterate and can't read road signs, no.

Having said that if it was a genuine mistake then it shows a lack of forward planning and local road knowledge.

Its no defence to say that they might not have known that they weren't allowed on the motorway. If they are driving a vehicle of any kind they should have learned the rules in the highway code accordingly. Thats as bad as someone in a car saying they didn't know they had to have car tax and insurance. If you drive the vehicle you have to be aware of the laws governing it.

(not the person on the bikes)

these boys took a wrong turning that is all as the road is not marked clearly like 99.9% of all road layouts, cause they get changed and noone realises.
they got off on the first opportunity and out of danger !
so leave them alone and get your facts straight!
and how dare who ever called them f**kin spoilt because there parents have bought them a moped to give them independence! say anything about people you do not no

Leave your comments to yourself and just think WHO PAID FOR YOUR DRIVING LESSONS!!
as it was probably your parents slaving in a job they loathed to pay for your lessons, first car and insurance!
so THINK before you leave any other comments that are personal !!!!!
