THERE was standing room only as hundreds of friends and relatives said a tearful farewell to Hampshire teenager Daniel Jolly.
The popular 17-year-old, nicknamed “DJ”, collapsed and died in front of his mum Brenda at his Bursledon home after suffering a severe asthma attack.
The Barton Peveril College student’s parents – Brenda and Jim – had asked that the service at St Margaret Mary RC Church in Park Gate be a colourful celebration of the popular former Henry Cort and St George’s School pupil’s life.
Daniel’s body was carried into the church by some of his friends, in a coffin painted with a bright orange Harley Davidson motorbike, representing his longstanding membership of the Tigers motorcycle display team.
Many of the young mourners wore bright shirts with the words “DJ #1 Legend” printed on the back – the same name used for an online tribute group in his memory, which has attracted almost 800 members.
