Customers ran out after hearing the loud bang when the shot was fired at 6.40pm while bar staff called 999.

Paramedics treated the 19-year-old victim at the scene before taking him to Southampton General Hospital where he spent five days recovering.

The trouble flared outside The Obelisk Hotel in Obelisk Road, Woolston, pictured, ten days ago – but police have only just released details after being approached by the Daily Echo.

The injured man will now have ongoing treatment for his injuries, after debris from the gun was lodged in his arm and couldn’t be removed.

Detectives arrested a 20-yearold man and questioned him over the incident. Firearms officers found the gun discarded in the car park at the scene.

However the man said to have carried out the shooting is on the run having fled the scene immediately after firing a single shot.

He is described as being around 20 years old, of mixed race appearance, slim with a short Afro-style haircut.

He is believed to have been wearing dark clothing.

Detective sergeant Paul Gelman, from Bitterne CID, who is leading the investigation, said: “We would like to reassure the local residents that this is an isolated incident and we are actively seeking the second suspect.

Trained firearms officers recovered the weapon at the scene but we are still trying to locate a second Southampton male in connection with this inquiry.

“This incident is being treated very seriously and I would urge anyone with information to please come forward.”

Witnesses of the shooting on Sunday, April 5, should call Bitterne CID and ask for the Operation Connect team on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
