FREDERICK Ashton’s famous ballet, Ondine, will be relayed live from the Royal Opera House to cinemas across the UK, including Southampton’s Harbour Lights Picturehouse, on Wednesday.

The Royal Ballet takes to the Covent Garden stage on the 50th anniversary of Ondine to retell Ashton’s romantic tragedy. The whole Company brings to life this tale of sea spirits and sailors, with effervescent scenes beneath the sea, in a gothic castle and aboard a storm-tossed ship - all magically staged in Lila de Nobili’s impressionistic designs.

Highlights from the performance include the famous shadow dance in Act 1 and a dramatic ship wreck in Act 2.

The showing begins at 7.30pm.
