7 more days to save Saints... and this time its serious

SAINTS administrator Mark Fry has issued a “grave” warning that he might have to start winding the club up if he can’t sell it by next Friday.

There have been numerous deadlines set in the last few months, but Fry told the Daily Echo: “The end of next week is a key tipping point in this.

“It’s the gravest its been in the period of administration.

“There was a very short timeframe from the point we got involved.

“We stretched that as far as we can possibly stretch it and a deal really needs to be completed.”

We have just 7 days to save our beloved Saints, and what is happening as we worry; they are all (the ones that said trust us)having the weekend off.

Might as well say our last farewell to our Saints.

Do we really want the Saints to move from the Sports pages of the Echo to the Heritage section?

How much of Southamptons past do we still wish that we had today?

The Football club simply cannot be allowed to go the same way as the Floating Bridge, or the Trams, or the bits of the old walls that were knocked down, or the Royal Pier, or the Ocean Terminal, or the Terminus station, or the bird aviary, or....

We tend to focus too much on how much it all costs and not enough on the qualitiative things that would make the City great..

No wonder Southampton hasn't got a WOW factor - we're continually demolishing it or letting it fail...

I read on this website the other day Mark Jackson saying"This has just been DUMPED on us,I thought the Pinnacle deal would go through".That comment told me he does he's not really interested in Saints.
If the Pinnacle deal is a wind-up it would have to be done by a very clever person with a bit of money behind them to pay £500,000 deposit. And who would want to discredit MLT,the biggest hero of the Saints in recent years.Anyone think of someone with a huge grudge against the club and supporters.
It also wouldn't surprise me if a certain ex-chairman came back to "save the club"at the last moment.
All cloak'n'dagger stuff I know, but the situation at the club has been like it for years.
Lets just hope it all gets sorted for the best outcome for the Saints and our supporters.

Just a thought... Now I don't know too much into the finance of the issue, I heard anywhere from 6 million to 24 million in debt.

Now, I have just wrote what could be a fair well message to Saints... But is there anyone out there who would know how much it would cost fans if we were to put money into the club,

I know a lot of fans have already, and it is "the recession" , but how much and how many would it take to bail us out, wipe of most the debts? It may sound stupid to some people but I can't see much else to do to save our club!

This is what I don't get. How can Pinnacle fool MLT, Fry, everyone else that should be scrutinising the finer details of the bid and stump up £1/2million? That is a very expensive wind up, and a pointless one at that as well as dangerous, I won't do it but some people are crazy enough to do this guy some serious damage. It does seem that the 10 points problem is a smoke screen and an excuse to pull out but the guy is still saying he will complete in the next few days (for what his word seems to be worth). It just doesn't add up. The one conclusion that does fit is that this Fialka guy has overplayed his wealth big time but he has got the backing to buy us. If it went ahead on time we would have all been a bit disappointed bearing in mind the rumours and expectations, but now we are so desperate we will be delighted with anything. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part but none of this adds up.

12:09pm Sat 27 Jun 09

MF and the League should cut Pinnacle loose and fast track other bidders but I suspect that the club is no longer worth the money being asked. The creditors too need to be more realistic about what they are going to get back. carry on as we are and there will be nothing left including players. By Friday next week reckon we all could be make are individual bids to buy the club. I blame the league as much as anyone else for allowing Pinnacle to take the matter so far without checking if they merit their approval. Between their -10 points and lack of due diligence they have truly screwed this once proud club. I hope they sleep at night and don't come across me in some dark alley

Somewhere, at the beginning of these comments, asked “How could this happen?” (Snuggle Saint?).

Any organisation, whether it’s a darts club or religious body, that’s been as divided as Southampton Football Club these last dozen years contains the seeds of its own destruction.

As a relatively new Saint’s supporter (20 years) I have never ceased to be amazed at the sheer bile and vitriol expended, especially at the boardroom level. Left unchecked it was inevitable this was bound to infect the rest of club, from background staff, through the management & playing staff and eventually onto the terraces.

Everyone will pick their favourite scapegoat, and there plenty from which to chose, but we (yes, we supporters, must share some of the blame) continuously ignored the warning signs that were there for all to see, preferring instead to entertain unrealistic aspirations.

It would also be easy to blame the “media”, though I fear the Daily Echo, like all regional newspapers currently facing grave circulation difficulties, allowed itself to be become too closely involved and at times appeared to be far from being an unbiased source of information. (e.g. having as a columnist one of the protagonists seems hardly impartial).

For all this to take place during a period of global financial recession has really been unfortunate. At any other time the purchase of the Saint’s would be an attractive financial speculation. However, with a projected 50Million unemployed across Europe with the next year, investing in a professional sports club may not seem an attractive proposition.

However, a lot can happen in a week and as Saint’s supporter I will not give up hope even as the “clock strikes midnight”!

Come On You Saints!

Fry will have had to have seen proof of funds when he gave the exclusivity period, so Fialka would have shown he had enough to complete the purchase - which is all Fry will be interested in and not worried about enough for future investment.

Not all wealthy people feel the need to drive around in Ferraris to display their wealth to others but it seems very strange that the family live in such modest circumstances when they are that wealthy, very eccentric.

This club is cheap, there are far less attractive propositions around at far greater prices and with much larger debt yet they seem to be attracting more interest, like the skaters.

Report on Saints page on SSN

"The Pinnacle consortium leading the chase to gain control of League One outfit Southampton is now prepared to accept a 10-point penalty in order for the deal to go ahead.

The process of the takeover had been delayed by the Football League's insistence that Southampton's new owners do not appeal the 10-point penalty placed upon them for legal irregularities.

However, it now looks as though they are resigned to the terms as they look to push through with the deal which has become an on-running saga.

Prospective owner Michael Fialka, who is heading the takeover bid, has shown unquestionable desire to take over and the property tycoon is adamant that a 10-point deduction would not hamper their promotion chances.

Fialka has previously promised there will be money made available should he take control and the group, backed by Saints legend Matt Le Tissier, hope to bankroll their plans to get the club back up into the Premier League."

The club was on the slide from whenever you want to date it, NOT just Lowe's return. I ask, who recklessly put the club in debt by last summer? Where was the rescue plan for Saints this winter/spring? Fans or these parties that the administrators are courting now could have helped the club out then. We should have pulled together then. Of course then you would not have got rid of Lowe so swiftly as administration did, but then again we would have a club and could find away to transfer ownership more smoothly, legitimately and with dignity later should you wish.

7 days? This from the man who told us months ago there were 20 days to save Saints. Wonder which 7 days? Dec 25, Jan 1, Aug 31, Sept 30, Oct 25, or April 1st.

I am astounded at the many sentimental "supporters" who expect some saviour to bail them out. Why ?
Businessmen are only interested in something that earns them money and Southampton Football Club Ltd is obviously not viable. If the sentimental are true supporters, why not club together as a co-operative & risk their own savings, pensions, or monies raised by mortgaging their properties. Perhaps they do not have that much faith after all.
