Saints players may not have any coaches

MARK Wotte will reconsider his Saints position tomorrow – and has warned that the first team faces having NO coaches to train them.

Wotte’s contract as head coach comes to an end today.

As of tomorrow, he will officially revert to his previous role as academy director.

He has already turned down two job offers from abroad to remain with Saints and wants to take charge of the first team next season in the third tier.

But, with one more club waiting for his decision, he can’t put off deciding his own future for much longer.

The first hurdle for the team, though, is to find someone to coach them tomorrow.

Not only is Wotte out of the picture, but Dean Gorre’s consultancy contact expired in May and Michael Svensson’s contract runs out today.

It may fall to a youth team coach to train the first team but Saints do have the experience of former reserve manager Stewart Henderson to call upon.

Wotte said: “I have my last day today (as head coach) and then probably I will stop doing this job.

“But I don’t know who is going to do the training sessions for the first team.

“Michael Svensson and Dean Gorre are also gone.

“The problem is we don’t know anything that’s going to happen in the next two days.

“Players and staff are running out of contracts.

“I think I have been very loyal and patient with this club.

“But it’s hard reading people who are not making a bid expressing their opinion on the new manager they want to sign.

“I hope we have a solution within 24 hours and everybody can make decisions.

“As I said before, I don’t think this club has to change management because this club has had too many changes of management.

“It is probably one of the reasons this club is in League One.

“But if the Pinnacle group want to change the manager, they have to buy the club and then do it.”

Wotte – Saints’ 14th manager or head coach since Alan Ball arrived in January 1994 – has continued to do his job admirably throughout all the summer takeover talk.

He has been angered by speculation and talk from potential investors over who they would appoint as a new manager before they have bought the club.

He added: “I will reconsider my position tomorrow.

“I have been loyal to the club, preparing the team for a season without knowing if I’m in charge.

“I’ve been in football too long to keep on doing this for somebody else.

“I regret the situation and I wish we all knew our futures a couple of weeks ago.

“It will cost the club some players.”

Mark you've been staunch and did a great job. Matt says Pinnacle is buying the club.. hopefully as we speak. I sincerely hope they have a great position for you if not the managers job. If you are replaced I have the feeling it will be by a legend that you'll enjoy working with.

Good Luck to you and the staff.

much as I thought.
We have no club left.
What a shambles.
What I would like to know is why Mr Fry even gave the Pinnacle fiasco even the time of day,it just does not stack up.
Im beginning to think he was just fobbing fans off and had gone with a no hope bid so that he could then asset strip the club when they pulled out.
As for Matt well is he a business man?

No argument from me regards Wottes comments. He's right. Loyalty not in question and if he's out of contract at the end of the day I don't blame him for switching his loyalty to a club that wants him.
Good luck Wotte and thanks for all your efforts.

It is interesting to reflect though, that the 2008 FA CUp final was between two ex-Saints managers.

Nothing much wrong with the managers it seems, it was the circumstances they had to work within...

You have done a brilliant Job MW I would personally like you to stay at the club you had your hands tied last season but this should be a fresh start if we finally do get takeover.
Heard MLT say he wanted the club in a stable position so I dont think we should change the manager either. (but thats just my opinion)

Mark Wotte has been a credit and has handled himself with professionalism and dignity, shame the same cant be said for the People from Pinnacle group. If I was Mark Wotte I would look out for number one now and not turn down any further offers, his loyalty is commendable. At least we know if Pinnacle do not complete by close of business today then they are out as this was the latest date quoted by MLT. I do now fear this is the end. The club is becoming less atrractive everyday. We will need a miracle worker to keep us in Div 1 with regards to how far behind the pace and what a shambles everything is in now.

Have they tried Buddens, Angela or Colesium. I have used them all in the past and they have some really great coaches.

Sorry about this sad and very silly comment but it is representative of the very cynical mood I am in at the moment.

I just can't take any of it seriously anymore.

Mr Wotte, your first duty is to your family. Not us.

Under these very trying circumstances only the myopic could criticise both you and the players who have remained here.

Being the fourteenth manager the Saints have engaged since 1994 was never going to be easy. That fact alone speaks volumes. I mostly certainly hope you are not our last!

However, even I am begining to have my doubts.

I would love to know were you made aware for the board’s long-standing disunity. Perhaps when these sad days are over you could tell us?

Anyway, Thank You & Good Luck!

At first, I didn't think Mark Wotte had what it takes to be a 1st team manager at Saints, but as time went on he certainly changed my mind. He was honest, and he had the players fighting for everyting, 100% better than under Poor-tvliet.
Good Luck in whatever you decide to do, would be good to see in the Saints managerial hot seat next season (thats if we have a club), but again Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Could it be that Fry went with Pinnacle because it meant he had 3 more weeks as Administrator taking his fees? I doubt it but his fees are no doubt going to be huge. And for what?

Marke Wotte has been a stalwart but his first duty must be to himself. I would like to think that he could stay and lead us back up into the championship. Christ knows we need some continuity/stability
. Still, good luck to him whatever he does.

That or he knew the rival bids were rubbish...

Hang on a minute, Wotte was still getting paid up until tomorrow when his contract ends.

If he had failed to come into work for the last month, no matter what the reasons, then he would have been in breach of contract and that would have gone against him for any other future jobs in football.

So Wotte has been doing what he's paid to do.

I have sympathy for everyone involved in Saints mess right now, but much much more sympathy for the office and training ground staff at the club whose jobs are on the line.

People in football preach far too often about loyalty. Lets see if Wotte would still be loyal to the club once he was not getting paid.
