A LONG-running saga to improve a Winchester street has taken a major step towards being resolved.
Residents in Grange Road, St Cross, had been waiting six years for the enhancements.
Developer Cavendish and Gloucester’s scheme to build 37 homes was approved in 2003, on the condition it spent around £100,000 on nearby roads and pavements.
But the home builder and transport chiefs at Hampshire County Council failed to agree on plans for the works. It meant a legal agreement – ensuring C&G carry out the improvements – expired.
Now the developer has settled the issue by handing over £70,000 to the authority.
Transport engineers are working on a scheme and it will then need to be incorporated into HCC’s budget before the improvements can begin.
