THE world’s fastest man has assured a Hampshire sailing crew who have set off on an epic round the world race they will do well – because their boat is named after him.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt said Jamaica Lightning Bolt, one of ten yachts which set out on the Clipper Round the World Race yesterday was “going to be fast”.

The 23-year-old prodigy sent the message to the crew as they prepared to set sail on the 35,000-mile race.

And in reply, the 43 crew saluted the triple record holder by adopting his famous celebratory pose.

In a recorded message wishing the crew of Jamaica Lightning Bolt well for the start of the race, Bolt said: “Guys, good luck. They’ve named the boat after me so it’s going to be fast. Don’t worry – you’re covered!”

The 70ft boat, named after the runner who was nicknamed the “lightning bolt” after smashing the 100m world record, left Hull along with nine others bound for Rio de Janeiro under the command of Titchfield skipper Pete Stirling for the first leg of the race.
