A jury will today consider its verdict in the case of a motorcyclist who is accused of riding dangerously at double the speed limit on a major Southampton road alongside his cousin who crashed and died.

Martin Cook, 23, of Blackbushe Road, Lordshill, was riding a Kawasaki ZX1000 sports motorcycle along Bitterne Road West with his cousin David Phillips and another man, Kevin Jarvis.

Both Cook and Mr Phillips are alleged to have set off at speed from the Bullar Road traffic lights.

Mr Phillips, 24, of Kathleen Road, Sholing, failed to negotiate a bend and crashed his Kawasaki 750 into a brick wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene on October 2 last year.

Cook, a sheet metal worker, denies one charge of dangerous driving.
