IT was “go, go, go” in the New Forest as one of the world’s most celebrated sports commentators took the microphone to describe some unusual high-speed sporting action.

Veteran motorsport commentator Murray Walker, pictured, swapped the streets of Monaco for a field near Damerham to give a blow-by-blow account of pig racing to hundreds of excited punters.

Eight races were held over a 100-metre track equipped with six jumps on which 40 porkers “especially bred for speed” went head to head.

The ultimate winner was Damerham sports field, gifted to the village by a landowner more than 40-years ago, and maintained with funds raised by local people.
