A COMMUNITY music project in Southampton is appealing for public votes to win a £50,000 grant from TV’s The People’s Millions.

The SoCo Music Project needs the cash to build a music and media studio at the Hightown Youth Centre in Thornhill.

A programme of workshops and activities will be run for people across the city including live music, recording, music technology, film editing, nternet radio, and podcasting.

Matt Salvage, a project director, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to have a top class media facility for use by the community.

“We’ve worked with some incredibly talented people in the city who would otherwise never get to the chance to use and be involved in what we hope to be an inspirational and exciting studio.”

Organisers plan to work with Thornhill Plus You regeneration scheme to ensure it is developed and run as a community facility.

The project will be featured on ITV on November 23, when viewers will get to vote on whether it gets the cash it needs.
