THIS was the scene after a high-powered sports car went crashing head-on into a lamppost.

Car parts went flying through the air as the black Maserati smashed through roadside safety barriers before spinning several times and colliding with a lamppost.

The 4200 Coupe, estimated to be worth between £20,000 and £30,000, was heading along the A35, Hunters Hill, towards Lyndhurst just before 9am on Saturday.

The car was being driven by an employee from Ross Packard Paintwork Ltd who had been carrying out repairs on the car.

He had picked up the car from a garage in Southampton, where final quality checks were being made, and driving it back to its base in New Milton, where the owner was due to pick it up later that day.

Harry Green was asleep inside his home when he was woken up by a loud crash just yards outside his bedroom window.

The 19-year-old said: “We were asleep and suddenly we heard this loud bang hitting our roof.

“We immediately ran to look what was going on and just saw all this smoke bellowing out of the car.”

His brother Simon, 22, said: “It was shocking to see how much damage it had done and we were amazed to see the driver get out unharmed. The lamppost was totally bent up and the bulb came shooting out of it, hitting our roof.”

Ross Packard, managing director of Ross Packard Paintwork Ltd, said: “This is the worst scenario from all angles but thankfully nobody was hurt in the crash.

“My first concern is for the owner and we will do everything we can to help them through this terrible situation.”
