HAMPSHIRE fell silent yesterday as thousands of people paid their respects to the fallen.

The sounds of brass bands and bagpipes rang out as poppy wreaths were laid at remembrance services around the county.

In the chilly autumnal weather, veterans went on parade alongside representatives of all the arms of the British forces as tributes were paid to those who had lost their lives in service.

The men and women who failed to return home from Afghanistan were also remembered as the death toll reached 200 at the weekend.
