AN elderly couple fled their bungalow in Southampton last night after a fire took hold in their kitchen.
The blaze happened after a chip pan left was left unattended on a cooker.
The kitchen suffered both fire and smoke damage and the rest of their home was also heavily smoke logged.
Firefighters from the St Marys station spent three hours at the scene in Foresthills Drive, Bitterne.
A smoke alarm alerted the residents to the danger and they were unhurt, but were comforted at the scene by the fire brigade's emergency support services.
