MOTORISTS are facing traffic chaos tonight after three separate accidents on two of Hampshire’s busiest motorways.

The latest crash saw three cars collide at the junction of the M3 and M27 northbound at 5.38pm. No one was seriously hurt in the accident.

It happened just an hour and a half after a woman was taken to Southampton General Hospital after falling from a bridge on the M27.

The incident happened at 4pm on the westbound carriageway near Chilworth between junctions 4 and 5.

Police say the 64-year-old woman from Southampton was not hit by any vehicles. She was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries but the full extent of her injuries is not known. The two westbound lanes of the motorway are due to be reopened shortly.

A third accident happened at 3.15pm when a Ford Focus and two heavy goods vehicles collided rupturing a fuel tank on the Hamble River Bridge. Fuel then spilt over two lanes of the east bound M27 causing another vehicle to crash on the carriageway. No one was injured in the accident.

Police have asked motorists to avoid this section of the motorway.

Gridlock spread on to surrounding roads causing misery for people trying to get home from work.

One motorist reported that it had taken him three hours to reach Titchfield from Southampton, a journey that would normally take less than half an hour.
