A MAN is recovering in intensive care today after being found with serious head injuries on Southampton Common.

Police investigating the incident said they have now been able to confirm the injured man’s identity to contact his relatives but how he ended up in the park remains a mystery.

The 58-year-old local man was found by a member of the public at 7.55am on Saturday and taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Parts of the park were sealed off during the morning while officers conducted their investigation.

The injured man is described as of slim build, wearing a chequered shirt, blue jeans, dark jacket, a light collar and dark shoes.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious between 8pm Friday night and 8am Saturday.
