A RAFFLE singlehandedly organised by a Southampton pensioner has raised more than £5,000 for Help for Heroes.
More than 60 people including a team of soldiers from the Army and Royal Marines and Southampton Mayor Liz Mizon packed into Ironside Court in Hamptun Street for the raffle, organised by 76-year-old Bett Wort.
Bett, whose son Marc Roberts is a company sergeant major in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, arranged more than 60 raffle prizes donated by local businesses including a Saints shirt signed by the team, a £400 Chelsea doll’s house and more than £1,000 worth of vouchers.
She said: “It’s the least I could do for my heroes.
“They do so much for us that I thought I had to do something for them.”
