POLICE have arrested a person for wasting police time after it was claimed a girl had gone missing in a Hampshire park last night.

Following the call at 7.30pm police spent more than five hours searching the Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley.

The search is said to have cost thousands of pounds after a Coastguard helicopter was used to search the area due to the stormy weather preventing the police spotter plane from taking off.

The search was called off at around 2.30am and a person was arrested for wasting police time.
