A damning report into a Barton-on Sea has criticised almost every aspect of treatment.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) report into the Merrymore Nursing Home said the 22 residents, including a 105-year-old woman, were left in the hands of poorly trained and inadequately supervised staff.

It described the £550-a-week home in Barton Wood Road, Barton-on-Sea, as “poor” and gave it a zero star rating.

These are just some of the things the CQC inspectors said Merrymore needed to do to raise standards:

  • Ensure that all care plans contain detailed descriptions of the action to be taken by staff to meet the needs of people living at the home.
  • Make an assessment of the environment of the home and take action to eliminate any identified hazards.
  • Ensure that all recruitment checks are received prior to new staff commencing employment at the home to determine their competency.
  • Ensure that staff have the knowledge and skills to provide care and support for the changing needs of people living at the home.
  • Ensure that accurate records of nutritional needs are maintained.
  • Ensure that arrangements are in place for the recording, safe keeping, safe administration and disposal of medicines received in the care home.
