Police have named the pensioner killed in an accident on a Hampshire trunk road.
Derek Myhill, 75, of Southampton Road, Salisbury, was walking along the A36 at Totton on Monday evening when he apparently stepped into the path of a Landrover Defender.
Mr Myhill, who was not married, was an author who was writing the second volume of science fiction trilogy.
He was also a retired biomedical researcher, medical inventor and book-seller who was well-known in both Salisbury and Southampton.
