A COMPROMISE thrashed out between Burley cricket and football clubs with the Verderers has led to permission being given for a pavilion extension.

The New Forest village cricket and football clubs won planning permission but were refused consent by the Verderers, who have the right of veto, in September.

The pavilion, which was opened in 1975, is built on Forest land near the village primary school.

The application was for a 46 sq m addition “which would have resulted in a pavilion considerably larger than any other structure on the open Forest”, said Official Verderer Oliver Crosthwaite Eyre at the November Verderers’ Court.

However, following a meeting with the chairman of the cricket and football club, the court was asked to grant consent for a revised and much more modest extension.

The smaller extension would allow a revision of the internal layout, an upgrade of facilities and provide a new equipment store.

Cricket club captain Barry Tucker said that the refurbishment and extension project was expected to cost between £70,000 and £80,000.
