PUPILS who stoned an elderly man’s house and smashed his windows will be made to write letters of apology to their victim.

It’s one of a raft of measures being enforced on the two 12-year-old boys – who have received police cautions for causing the damage – by their school.

The youngsters’ parents, who are said to be shocked by their children’s behaviour, have also vowed to work with school management to make amends for the suffering of the 85-year-old man.

As reported by the Daily Echo, the pensioner was left frightened when a number of windows of his home in Lancaster Road, Lordshill, were shattered.

In a second, unrelated incident, the man’s front door was kicked in by a different group of youths who are still to be traced by police.

In total, the damage is estimated at £700.

Following an investigation by staff and a police officer who works with Oasis Academy Lords Hill, two youths were found to be responsible for the stoning and were arrested and questioned by police.

Oasis head teacher Ian Golding said the school would now impose a variety of sanctions on the pair, including a form of community service.

He said: “It was the careful investigation by the academy, which takes these matters very seriously, that led to the identification of those students involved.

“Both families involved have been very supportive. Obviously they are very disappointed by their children’s actions and they have agreed to work with the academy to help the students make amends for the damage they have done.”

Mr Golding added: “The students will be sanctioned by the academy and will undertake community service as a punishment.

Both boys will also be asked to write a written apology.”

Oasis Academy has a police officer, under the safer schools partnership, who is also making contact with the victim to ensure he is receiving support.

The school has also vowed to ensure the man is not left out of pocket.

Police are still trying to find those responsible for the second attack on the man’s home and are urging anyone with information to contact Shirley police station on 101.
