Drug addict Neil Munkley targeted shops, pubs and community centres in a week-long spree.
Yet despite the 27-year-old pocketing about £800 that should have gone to members of the armed forces and their families, he was spared a prison sentence.
Instead, a court imposed just a 12-month community order and told him to attend a drug rehabilitation course.
The Royal British Legion described it as “sickening”.
