FAST moving bright lights in the sky shortly after midnight turned out to be Chinese Flying Lanterns.

Increasingly revellers are setting off the lanterns, which use hot air from a tea light to lift them into the air, as part of their New Year celebrations.

Steven Peach of Bursledon saw five orange lights from Netley moving towards the New Forest while Bob Jennings saw three or four orange lights in Warsash.

Meanwhile hospital worker Rosemary Waddup saw ten red lights travelling in a straight line over the Bitterne sky.
