HAMPSHIRE has been warned to brace itself for more snow with further downfalls forecast across the county during the day.
Light snow was expected to move in to the Southampton area this morning and at lunchtime with heavier showers expected from 6pm.
By 9am the snow was falling heavily in Bitterne, Hedge End and Winchester.
A Met Office spokesman said southern parts of Hampshire could expect a covering of between 2 and 5 cm over the next 24 hours - but the snowfall was expected to subside later this evening.
Temperatures are not expected to move above freezing throughout the day with the thermometers dipping to a low of –4 C over night.
A severe weather warning remains in place for Hampshire and heavier snowfalls are expected to the north of the county.
