Green-thinking pupils at Shamblehurst Primary School in Hedge End

SWITCHED-ON youngsters are urging you to switch off for one hour for the sake of a greener future.

Green-thinking pupils at Shamblehurst Primary School in Hedge End have launched their Switch Off for One Hour campaign to get more people thinking about saving energy.

To kick things off, students took part in a day of activities, learning about the easy ways to reduce their carbon footprint and how to be greener.

Pupils also took part in a presentation, telling their teachers how they believe their school can change to reduce energy waste.

I switch off for 6 or 7 hours at night when I go to bed.

Judging by some of your posts you're not exactly "switched on" during the day

Nearly 100% of the waste energy of a lightbulb is in the form of heat, if you switch off your lightbulbs in the winter (when all your windows and doors are shut) then it just means your heating will kick in a little bit more to maintain the room temp and compensate for the heat your not getting from your lights - thus you haven't really saved any energy at all in the big scheme of things. (not the case in the summer with windows open or with outside lights)
Its the same with the kettle, if you boil too much water the excess heat will dissipate into the room your trying to heat anyway. Insulation is the way to go kids!

Here we go. More government sponsored brain-washing of our children into the myth of global warming and "carbon footprint". This political bias should be kept out of our schools.

I agree totally with you, schools now seem to toe the corrupt Labour governments line and fill our next generation with unproved theories and airbrush our history to remove any pride that they may have in this wonderful country
