HUNDREDS of people marched through the streets of Winchester this morning to pay tribute to King Alfred the Great.
The King Alfred Procession started outside the city's cathedral and retraced the path fromm the Saxon king's initial resting place to Hyde Abbey.
Many wore historical dress for the 900th anniversary of the abbey's foundation and reburial of Alfred, his wife and son on the site.
Crowds followed three coffins draped in red that signified the reburial party.
