ONE of Europe's largest commercial marine exhibitions, seawork2005, opens its doors in Southampton's Western Docks to delegates from around the world on Tuesday.
The high-profile event is a major showcase for hundreds of businesses in Hampshire's booming marine sector.
The event has become one of the most important dates in commercial marine's international calendar and incorporates the RibWork and DiveWork exhibitions.
The event also includes a three-day conference, with papers by the Marine Coastguard Agency, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Ministry of Defence.
Thousands of delegates from the UK, Europe, USA and even Australia will attend the three-day event at Canary Islands Fruit Terminal in the Western Docks until Thursday, making seawork2005 a valuable earner for the local economy.
The exhibition is aimed at commercial marine professionals and features displays on land and on water in a major showcase highlighting latest equipment, products, systems and vessels.
A specially constructed marina will berth more than 60 craft.
On the opening day, Mermaid Marine will unveil a new marine diesel engine made entirely in Britain.
