ISLE of Wight MP Andrew Turner has been promoted to the Conservative front bench.
Leader Michael Howard asked Mr Turner to join the shadow home affairs team.
One of his first tasks will be to focus on the government's charities Bill.
Mr Turner, pictured, said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed to this position and I am very much looking forward to getting to grips with this exciting new challenge.
"The charities Bill is an important piece of legislation. I plan to work to ensure that the Bill provides effective support for the voluntary sector without swamping it in unnecessary interference."
He said islanders would not be neglected because of his appointment.
"The Isle of Wight will always come at the top of my priority list.
"It will be business as usual in my constituency office and I will be devoting just as much time and energy to constituency matters."
