THE fairground worker who died after being trapped inside his burning caravan has been named as Thomas Alfred William Bond.

Family members have now identified the 34-year-old man who was killed in a blaze at The Potteries in Botley Road, Shedfield, in the early hours of Wednesday.

An inquest into his death is due to be opened and adjourned this afternoon.

Investigators are continuing to comb the 14ft touring caravan for clues ahead of a formal inquest, expected early next year.

A post-mortem examination has confirmed that the single man, who was alone in the caravan, died of smoke inhalation and burns.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious but a team of forensic scientists, police and fire investigators are continuing their checks in a bid to establish its cause.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Wayne Parsons said: "There are more investigations to be carried out and further files to be presented.

"All the findings will now be going to the coroner."

The mother and sister of the man are being comforted by relatives in their homes within the site, which has been used as a permanent base and storage depot for fairground workers and equipment for 17 years.

About 20 firefighters from stations including Bishop's Waltham, Botley and Wickham were called to the scene at 4.35am.

They were warned that someone was trapped inside the burning caravan but as they began tackling the blaze, it became clear that the occupant was already dead.
