THE fire which killed a showground worker trapped inside his burning caravan is not being treated as suspicious.

Investigators are still combing the 14ft touring caravan, which has been removed from the scene of the blaze at the Potteries in Botley Road, Shedfield, for clues.

Checks are continuing in a bid to establish the cause of the fire, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A post-mortem has confirmed that the 34-year-old single man, who was alone in the caravan, died of smoke inhalation and burns.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Wayne Parsons said: "There are more investigations to be carried out and further files to be presented. All the findings will now be going to the coroner."

An inquest is due to be opened and adjourned today.

The mother and sister of the man are being comforted by relatives in their homes within the site, which is used as a permanent base and storage depot for fairground workers and equipment.
