Theatre Royal WinchesterSUMMER Holiday is based on the well-known film and follows the travels of four friends on a double-decker bus across Europe. The stage version is packed full of familiar songs.
After a bit of a shaky start the cast settled into a lively performance. The musical numbers were delivered with enthusiasm and were well accompanied by The Ron Armstrong Orchestra under John Sparrow's musical direction. It was a shame that at times, despite microphones, the cast could not be heard. This was especially the case when there was dialogue over the music.
Jason Curtis and Becky Clist made the most of the cast's talents and succeeded in bringing a Sixties feel to the stage.
Unfortunately, poor lighting didn't make the best of the fun set, which included a London bus.
Generally the principal characters did well, in particular, David Curtis as Don and Juli Blake as the publicity hungry Stella. Ends Tomorrow
