Romsey police are appealing for witnesses to the theft of two cash point machines.
Raiders removed the ATM machines from outside Roadchef, the eastbound side of the Rownham's Services.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, between 1.15 and 4.40.
The raiders smashed brickwork adjoining the cash machines and officers believe they would certainly have been heard by anyone nearby.
The police are keen to hear from lorry drivers or other motorists who may have been using the motorway service area for a rest break.
They would also like to hear from any other motorist who was driving along the M27 and may have seen anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. A group of motorway maintenance workers were also working near-by and they too may be able to assist the police with their enquiries.
Anyone with information should contact Romsey CID office on 0845 045 45 45 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
