Old Tauntonians & Romsey (136 for 9) beat Hungerford (163 all out) by 1 wicket - rain-reduced target. OLD Tauntonians & Romsey are hoping that Saturday's thrilling last ball win at home to Hungerford - their first of the campaign - will have kick-started their season.

After OTR lost the toss and were asked to field, the Hungerford batsmen played in a four-or-nothing manner. Opener Julian Wood (35), hitting the ball especially hard through the off side, set the tone until he was well caught at the wicket by Keith Trodd off the bowling of brother and captain Mike Trodd.

Owen Dawkins (46) played in the same vein until he fell victim to Mukesh Morjaria (12-5-25), who picked up his first five-wicket haul in Premier League cricket. It was left to N Miller (25) to bat patiently, seeing Hungerford through to their total of 163 all out.

The victory target was reduced to 135 off 35 overs after a couple of rain stoppages, and OTR set about their task in a steady fashion. Charles Forward (19) and Mike Trodd (23) provided the platform, and Stuart Tulk (24) added the impetus when it was needed. But the star of the show was Ahmad Khan, whose fine 48 not out won the game in dramatic fashion.

Needing five runs to win off the final over, three singles sprinkled amongst a couple of wickets left OTR needing 2 runs off the final ball with Khan facing.

He dug out a leg stump yorker, but only 30 yards to mid-wicket. A slight fumble by the fielder and a poor throw to the keeper, who could not gather the ball, allowed Khan through for a badly-needed victory.
