ORGANISERS of last Sunday's Power in the Park have hailed the event a major success despite not being a sell-out.

A final attendance figure has yet to be confirmed but organisers Power FM reckon about 10,000 fans braved the downpours to see one of the best line-ups in the event's ten-ear history.

Highlights included performances by Southampton's very own Craig David - his first in the city in nearly two years - Welsh pop diva Charlotte Church, R&B hunk Lemar, pop princess Rachel Stevens and former Spice Girl Mel C.

There was something for mums and dads to enjoy too with performances by 80s girl band Bananarama, Chesney Hawkes and X Factor finalist Rowetta.

Sophie Fenning, regional marketing director for Power FM, said: "Once again our annual event proved to be a great success as fans from in and around the area gathered on Southampton Common to see some of their favourite music artists.

"Although a final count is still to be done following ticket sales on the day, we estimate that the crowd was in the region of 10,000 with money from every ticket sale being donated to Help a Local Child."
