IN OLDEN days pirates were renowned for pillaging and plundering -- but this group of young deckhands just wanted to have fun.
A group of about 30 children, with either cerebral palsy or Down's syndrome, joined members of Fareham Sailing and Motor Boat Club for a day on the high seas.
The yachtsmen and women spared no expense, dressing up like pirates and decorating their boats like old galleons. Then it was anchors away as they motored down Fareham Creek and into Portsmouth Harbour.
It was there that they had the chance to experience a little of what life was like during raging battle.
With the help of a few props such as water pistols and plastic swords, the pirates fought for glory.
Event organiser, Bill Baird, said: "We started the Pirate Day three years ago working with the Rainbow Centre for children with cerebral palsy and it's grown since then.
"This year we have about 25 yachts taking part and it's all about creating visual and sound effects for the children. Club members enjoy it as it gives them a chance to do something for the community and we hope the children enjoy it too."
