SARSEN Housing Association, which celebrates its 10th birthday this year, has spent £37 million on maintenance over the decade to deal with a backlog of repairs.

"A lot of money was spent on improvements to heating systems, double glazing, bathrooms and kitchens but that is only the beginning and the improvements will continue," said association spokesman Philip Mackie.

The association has already earmarked a further £3 million for improvements over the next 12 months but needs to find out more about the longer term requirements of the property estate over the next 30 years.

To do this the association has appointed consultants who will carry out surveys of 1,000 Sarsen homes between now and the end of July.
